Eric was perched in his chat that occupied a spot beside Alan's bed in their shared apartment. Eric always sat here and read a book while Alan slept off one of his attacks. Tonight was no different. Tonight's attack had been particularly bad, so much so that Alan had actually coughed up some blood and passed out.
Alan had his attack here at their home so all Eric really had to do was rid Alan of all his clothes but his pants and settle him in his bed, putting his glasses on the nightstand by the bed. So thus he found himself guarding the young mans sleep yet again.
Alan slowly opened his eyes, blinking a couple times to clear his vision. He was in his bedroom in bed. Hearing the sound of rustling paper, he turned his head and smiled softly. Eric, ever the silent guardian. He quietly rolled onto his side so he could simply watch his roommate read.
To Alan, Eric was perfect. He had a smile for him all the time, always had time to help him during and after an attack. Eric was more of a rebel than he was with his unique hairstyle and slightly sloppy way of dressing, even his blue-tinted glasses. But what he liked the most was when Eric held him close and tight during an attack.
Blushing madly at the thought of Eric holding him so intimately, he pulled the blankets up over his head to hide his flushed face. Hearing the movement of the blankets, Eric looked over and let out a soft chuckle.
"Alan." he called softly, smirking as he saw the top of Alan's head shake 'no'.
He set the book aside and sat on the edge of the bed, toeing his shoes off.
"Alan." he called again. Another no.
He crawled across the bed to his friend's side and gently tugged the blanket down until his eyes found Alan's.
"Hi." Alan said softly, peeking up at Eric.
"Hi. You okay?"
"Yes."
"Then why are you hiding?"
Alan shrugged.
"You gonna come out?"
Alan shook his head no.
"Not even for me?"
Alan shrugged.
"You leave me no other choice then." Eric sighed dramatically.
And with that, Eric was suddenly nose to nose with Alan under the blankets, a big grin on his face.
"Seriously though, you're okay?"
"I'm fine now, Eric. Thank you."
"Anything for you, 'Lan." Eric murmured.
Alan scooted closer until he was nestled against Eric's chest. He felt Eric's laugh vibrate against his ear as those strong arms enveloped him in a warm embrace.
"You are such a cuddle bug." Eric teased gently.
Alan blushed and hid his face against his chest. The two lay in comfortable silence for a good ten minutes before a knock at the door broke the spell.
"I got it." Eric grumbled.
Eric slipped from the bed and padded over to the door. Keeping it chained, he opened it to see William on the other side. He shut the door and unlatched the chain before allowing the elder reaper inside.
He wasn't surprised to see William here. Despite his cold attitude, he had developed a strong father/son relationship with young Alan.
William nodded his thanks to Eric and laid his scythe against the wall by the door. Eric nodded back and walked to the couch to read a book. The usual greeting between the two always seemed to put them at ease.
William sat on the bed and leaned back against the headboard before opening his arms to Alan. Alan curled up against William, laying his head on the elder's lap. William tugged his gloves off before carting his fingers through Alan's mousy brown hair.
William and Alan needed no works. In private, William was ever the loving and caring father to a very ill son. Depending on his mood, he'd even tolerate Eric's presence during these moments.
When he heard a soft sob from the room, Eric leaned over to check on the two. He could see Alan's shoulders shaking as he cried his frustrations out against William's chest. William just held him, one arm around his back while his other hand stroked his hair.
Eric could see William's lips moving but he couldn't hear the words. That was fine with him. This was William's time with his 'son'. Assured it was all fine, he leaned back and turned his attention back to his book.
An hour later William came out, pulling his gloves back on before pushing his glasses up and sitting across from Eric in a chair.
"He's asleep again."
"He's lucky to have you, William. You got a different strength than I do that he needs."
"He loves you, Eric."
"I know."
"Then what the hell is stopping you?"
"You approve?"
"Better you than Sutcliff. Besides, I know you'd never hurt him."
"Point taken and you're right, I'd kill myself before I hurt him."
"Has Sutcliff been by to see him?"
"Yeah. He brought Knox with him. Grell gave him the roses and Ron gave him the plush rabbit before they left on assignment."
William nodded and rose, gathering up his scythe. "You both have tomorrow off. Undertaker said he'd come in to fill in for you both. Please do remember to thank him. I have to get back. I'll be by later tonight."
Eric nodded and walked him out. "I'll make sure to tell him a good joke in payment." he smirked and waved to William.
Checking to ensure Alan was still asleep, he left their apartment to go get something for their dinner. When he got back about 15 minutes later, Alan was just waking up.
"C'mon, 'Lan. I got us dinner from the shop around the corner."
Alan padded out of the bedroom on bare feet, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
The two ate in comfortable silence. When done, Eric cleaned up while Alan watched from the table for a moment. When Eric turned around, Alan wasn't at the table. He found him in the bedroom staring out the window.
Eric approached, noticing as Alan jumped when he wrapped his arms around his waist. He rested his chin on his shoulder, looking at him in the reflection of the window pane. The look Alan saw in Eric's eyes was a new one. Grinning, Eric guided Alan backwards until the two were facing the full length mirror that was near the foot of Alan's bed.
Alan watched mesmerized as Eric lifted a gloved hand and caught the tip of a finger between his teeth. He watched as those teeth slowly pulled first one glove then the other off. He couldn't stop the shiver that ran through his body as a warm hand brushed the hair away from his neck.
Those fingers were quickly replaced by warm lips ghosting against his pulse point. Alan let out a soft gasp as his fingers clutched to the arm that was still wrapped around his waist. His eyes fluttered closed.
"Watch." Eric murmured in his ear, his breath tickling Alan's flushed skin.
Alan slowly opened his eyes to meet Eric's in the mirror. He watched as Eric returned to assaulting his neck. He tilted his head slightly, giving Eric better access. The hand around his waist slowly ghosted upwards towards his chest where skilled fingers started to unbutton the shirt he had put on until it was opened.
Alan couldn't hold back the moan as Eric's calloused hand moved against his burning flesh, brushing against an already hard nipple. He arched into the touch, one hand resting on Eric's hip as his other hand came up to thread it's fingers through Eric's hair.
Eric pulled back and moved around to stand in front of Alan, cupping his face in his hands, his thumbs brushing against his flushed cheeks.
"I love you so damn much it hurts, Alan."
Tears rimmed Alan's eyes and he reached up to cup the back of Eric's head and pulled him down into a shy kiss.
"Love you too, Eric. Always have." he murmured against Eric's lips.
The next couple of hours were spent touching, kissing, and learning the feel of each others bodies before it ended in a drawn out round of love making. Eric reveled in all the sounds he brought from Alan with his touches and kisses.
Afterward, he hovered panting over Alan, resting on his arms as he brushed sweat-soaked bangs from Alan's face and stared down at his beautiful little lover. He brushed a soft kiss to his forehead before getting up and vanishing into the bathroom.
He returned with a damp cloth and gently cleaned Alan and himself before tossing the cloth back into the bathroom. He stretched out beside Alan and gazed down at the black veins that marred Alan's chest. His stigma. Shi no Toge. Thorns of Death. He leaned down and brushed soft kiss against his ill heart.
He was about to curl up with Alan to rest when he heard a knock at the door. Grumbling, he pulled his boxers and pants on and headed towards the door. Alan pulled his own boxers and pants on and curled up on his side, watching Eric.
Eric opened the door and sighed.
Grell.
He stepped aside to let the red-head in.
Grell pranced inside and was about to say something until he paused to take in Eric's state of undress. Arching a brow, he leaned to the side to peer into the bedroom at Alan. He saw the shy smile and blush on Alan's face before he saw the pile of clothes.
Nodding, he smiled sweetly and lead Eric off to the side so Alan couldn't see. He put his hands on his hips and got up nose to nose with Eric, looking him dead in the eyes.
"You hurt him in ANY way and I will not stop until I hunt you down and render you apart. Am I absolutely clear?" Grell growled at Eric, not a hint of teasing in his voice.
For the first time ever had Grell's mere presence actually cause fear in Eric as it did in this one single moment. He knew that Grell adored Alan as a brother and that the young man was dear to the red-head. Grell tended to mother Alan when he was ill and Alan indulged the red-head his motherly fussing.
Eric nodded. "Crystal, Grell." he choked out.
Grell nodded and hugged Eric tightly. "You take good care of my little Alan." he squealed happily before bounding into the bedroom to fawn over Alan.
Rubbing the back of his neck, he risked going into the bedroom. He found Alan curled up with his head on Grell's lap while Grell petted his hair as William had earlier.
Alan smiled and held his hand out to Eric to join them. While the three sat together chattering softly, William and Ronald arrived, getting in with William's key. Soon the five were all in the bedroom talking about their day and the latest gossip. They stayed up late into the night enjoying each others company and strengthening their bonds with each other.
Alan smiled happily as he listened to everyone talking. This was his family. This was his home. He never had to worry about being alone ever again.
Alan had his attack here at their home so all Eric really had to do was rid Alan of all his clothes but his pants and settle him in his bed, putting his glasses on the nightstand by the bed. So thus he found himself guarding the young mans sleep yet again.
